Forms

Website forms where every enquiry is its own lead. Host a form on its own page, embed it on any site or run it in WordPress. Spam is kept, never acted on.

A form in Combdex is a set of questions you build once and publish on your website, at its own address, or on a WordPress site, and every clean submission becomes its own lead with the contact and the source attached. Spam is checked at the door and kept, but it never creates a lead or sends an email.

Where do I build a form?

Open Marketing, then Forms, and press New form. Each form has four tabs: Build, Submissions, Funnel and Health. The builder holds eighteen kinds of field:

  • Answers: Short answer, Long answer, Email, Phone, Number, Date, Time and Web address.
  • Choices: Dropdown, Single choice, Multiple choice, Tickbox, Service type and Urgency.
  • Content: Heading, Paragraph, Raw HTML and Divider, which print on the form and are never submitted.

Split a long form into steps. A question can wait on an earlier choice: "show this field only when an earlier answer says so", with "is" or "is not". The step-by-step guide is Building a form.

Where can the form live?

In three places, and an edit saved in Combdex changes all three at once:

PlaceHow
Its own pageSwitch on A page of its own on the Share a link card. The address is app.combdex.com/f/ then your company's link name and the form's own name. A QR code downloads as PNG or SVG for the van or a sign.
Any websitePaste these two lines: a div where the form goes and one script tag. No iframe.
A WordPress siteThe Combdex Bridge plugin: a shortcode or a Combdex form block.

The embed only accepts submissions from the sites in its Allowed sites list. See Hosting and embedding for each route.

What happens when someone submits?

  1. The door check. A hidden honeypot field, a minimum fill time, a single-use token, a ceiling per address and a ceiling per company. A flood past the company ceiling is refused, and the owner is alerted.
  2. The spam score. Links in the answers, a fill in a few seconds, text in capitals and the same answer in three boxes add points. A submission over the line is saved as Flagged and stops there.
  3. The contact match. Combdex looks for the person by email or phone. A match attaches the lead to that contact. A Location you do not hold yet is reported on the lead rather than saved, because only a person can tell a second Location from a typo.
  4. The lead. A new lead, every time, with the answers, the consent wording the visitor saw and the source: direct, organic, paid, social, email or referral.
  5. The notice. An email to the owners and admins, and an automatic reply to the visitor if you switched it on for that form.

The lead shows in Leads and on the phone at once.

Why is every enquiry its own lead?

Because a second enquiry from the same person is a second job more often than it is a duplicate. A customer who asked about a gate in March and a fence in June has two leads on one contact, and the history of both stays on the contact. A retried delivery of the same submission still makes one lead.

Two first-party tools sit beside the forms on Marketing, Website:

  • A tracked link is a short app.combdex.com/l/ address made for one named person. The first tap tells Combdex who opened it, and the open lands on that contact's timeline. See Tracked links.
  • Visitor tracking is one script line. It records page views, form views, starts, errors and submissions, and taps on your phone number. It honours the browser's Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals, stores no raw IP address, and keeps the location to country and region. See Visitor tracking.

With tracking on, the Funnel tab shows how many people saw the form, started it, reached each step and sent it.

What does the WordPress plugin add?

The Combdex Bridge renders your forms from a definition it keeps in sync, relays each submission server to server, loads the tracking script on every page, and receives articles written in Combdex as drafts. It needs WordPress 6.0, PHP 8.0 and HTTPS. The WordPress connection is not on every plan; see pricing. Installation is in The WordPress plugin.

What Combdex does not do yet

There is no file upload on a public form, and there will not be one. Combdex has no consent banner for visitor tracking; a site that needs one keeps its own banner. A form cannot take a payment. A condition reads one earlier choice; a rule that combines two answers is not available.

Questions people ask

Does every form submission become a lead?

Every clean submission does, as its own lead, even when the same person writes twice. A returning customer is matched on email or phone and the lead is attached to that contact. The contact itself is never edited by a form.

What happens to spam?

Combdex keeps it and does nothing with it. A flagged submission makes no lead, no contact, no notification and no automatic reply. It shows in the Submissions table as Flagged, and Not spam turns it into a lead if the check was wrong.

Can a visitor upload a photo on the form?

No, and this is deliberate. A public form has no file upload and no address autocomplete. Both keep the form fast, keep third-party scripts off your pages and keep files from strangers out of your storage. Ask for photos by text after the first reply.

Do I need WordPress?

No. A form works at its own address on app.combdex.com and on any website that accepts two lines of HTML. The WordPress plugin is an extra route for a WordPress site: the site renders the form itself and relays each submission server to server.

Who gets told when a lead arrives?

The owners and admins of the company, by email, on by default. The lead also shows in Leads on the web and on the phone at once. If a lead cannot be created, the office gets a lost enquiry notice instead of silence.

Open Combdex. Take the photos you were already going to take. Let the record build from there.
